Putna Colloquia, 10th edition
On the 24th of February, 2011, in room H1 of the Catargi House of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University the 10th edition of the Putna Colloquia was held. This edition was organized by the “Stephen the Great” Documentation and Research Centre of the Putna Monastery and by the Doctoral School of the Faculty of History. There were a total of eight lectures during this Colloquium, given by professors and doctoral students from the aforementioned Faculty, as well as by several monks from the monastery.
The lectures were grouped in two sessions: Men and Books (Petronel Zahariuc, Maria-Magdalena Székely, monk Alexie Cojocaru, monk Iusin Taban) and Gestures and Images (hieromonk Dosoftei Dijmărescu, Ioan-Augustin Guriţă, hieromonk Marcu Petcu, monk Timotei Tiron, Mihai-Bogdan Atanasiu, Ştefan S. Gorovei).
Among the main contributions brought about by this edition of the Colloquia we mention: the discovery of a hitherto unknown abbot of the Putna Monastery; the presentation of several Slavonic manuscripts from Putna; the rediscovery of the oldest known Romanian Octoechos, translated by Metropolitan Dosoftei; a manuscript from the beginning of 20th century from the archive of Putna; some hitherto unknown drawings and photos from the 19th and 20th century with the precinct and the interior of the church, important events, personalities and spiritual fathers of the Putna Monastery; the history of the people behind certain objects from the treasury of the monastery.
The Colloquium ended with a word from the father abbot of the Putna Monastery, archimandrite Melchisedec Velnic, who expressed his appreciation and respect towards the efforts of the participants to bring about new contributions to the history of the Putna Monastery. Finally, his holiness thanked all of them and invited the participants to the next edition of the Putna Colloquia which is to be held between August 31 and September 3, 2011 at this monastery.
