The thought of celebrating His Majesty Stephen in a special way on the 500th anniversary of his passing into eternity emerged in 1998-1999, when, in a meeting with Patriarch Teoctist, the topic of repainting the church of Putna Monastery in the al fresco technique was raised.


The Church took the initiative and the state joined in later, in 2002–2003, when the Ministry of Culture took the necessary steps to celebrate Stephen the Great at the UNESCO level.


This album is published 20 years after the celebration dedicated to the holy Prince of Moldavia in 2004. The volume includes a comprehensive chronicle of the events held on July 1-4, the speeches delivered at the Divine Liturgy on the saint’s feast day and other related events in the commemorative year dedicated to him. It also includes testimonies from organizers and participants, who describe what their involvement in the 2004 Celebration meant for them and how it changed their lives.
