With the blessing of His Eminence Calinic, Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuți, Putna Monastery’s “Stephen the Great” Research and Documentation Center organized the 28th edition of the “Putna Colloquia” International History Symposium, held, on February 23, 2023, with physical and online participation.

The presented papers focused on various topics: Lady Maria Asanina Palaiologina’s insignia; a reconstitution of the equipment and arms of Stephen the Great’s soldiers; anthropo-toponymics in Moldavia according to chancery documents surviving from the pre-1504 period (1392–1492); new information on some hegumens of the Dragomirna Monastery; the informative role of church painting, how Byzantine-tradition painting includes elements that are contemporary to the moment of the making of the fresco and the iconography of the feast of The Circumcision of our Lord in Moldavian post-Byzantine painting; aspects related to Putna Monastery’s past (correspondence with the eparchial center between 1785 and 1810; minor testimonies on cultural life and people behind it; aspects related to the Putna Parish discovered in archive documents; additions to the history of the holy place during Abbot Demostene Tebeica, according to archive documents; the flag of the city of Vaslui, one of the gifts deposed on Stephen the Great’s tomb during the 1871 Putna Celebration.

The edition included a Musicology Section in which two previously unknown Romanian-origin manuscripts were presented, as well as some of Eustatie the Protopsaltis’ manuscripts from church collections in Ukraine and Belarus, papers presented by researchers from Ukraine.

The Colloquia also hosted the presentation of the book Boieri ai Moldovei, înainte și în vremea lui Ștefan cel Mare (“Moldavian Boyars before and during Stephen the Great’s Reign”) by Lucian-Valeriu Lefter, historian, as well as the presentation of the XVIII, 2022, 1 issue of the Analele Putnei journal.
